Known for his professionalism, kindness, and steady presence, Deputy Vargas embodied the values of service and community.<\/p>\n On March 28, 2026<\/strong>, Deputy Vargas collapsed during the Baker to Vegas Challenge Cup Relay<\/strong>, a 120-mile law enforcement race through the desert. Despite immediate medical attention and transport to a Las Vegas hospital, he passed away later that day. His death marked the first in the race\u2019s 40-year history<\/strong>, a solemn reminder of the physical and emotional toll borne by those who serve.<\/p>\n Deputy Vargas was 30 years old. He is survived by his wife, parents, siblings<\/strong>, and extended family.
