Max Donahue proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for four and a half years. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment and deployed to Afghanistan as a Military Police K\u20119 handler. His partner was Fenji, a Specialized Search Dog trained for off\u2011leash explosive detection.<\/p>\n<p>On August 4, 2010, Max was critically wounded by an IED blast while on patrol in Helmand Province. He succumbed to his injuries three days later, on August 7, 2010.<\/p>\n<p>At 23, he walked point in Helmand Province as a military working dog handler \u2014 clearing paths, protecting his brothers, and carrying courage far beyond his years. She continued to live after the war, and her story remains a powerful testament to the bond between handler and dog.<\/p>\n<div>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<strong>Legacy<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Max\u2019s courage, devotion, and sacrifice are remembered by his family, fellow Marines, and the Fire Line community.
