Seven Sons. Two Wars. One Mother Who Carried Them All.
Some families send one son to war.
Carrie Reeves Williams sent six.
Born in 1898, Carrie raised nine children in Carter County — seven sons and two daughters — during a time when the world was changing faster than anyone could understand. She lived long enough to see her boys serve in World War II, the Korean War, and in the Oklahoma National Guard. She lived long enough to see her grandsons and great‑grandsons carry the family’s service into new generations.
Her story is not just a family story.
It is an American story.
Her sons served everywhere the world was burning:
- Odell Williams — U.S. Army Colonel, WWII POW, Purple Heart, Korea, Bronze Star with two Oak Leaf Clusters
- James C. Williams — U.S. Army, Normandy, Battle of the Bulge, liberation of Dachau, 20+ year career
- Ancel Eugene Williams — U.S. Army, South Pacific, Commended by Brig. Gen. Hugh Hoffman, Bronze Star, National Guard
- Billy Ray Williams — U.S. Army, WWII, Korea, Purple Heart, retired Sergeant Major
- Bobby Joe Williams — Oklahoma National Guard, 45th Division, Company Training NCO & Supply Sergeant
- Adriel (Andrel) Williams — U.S. Marine Corps, Pacific Theater, wounded in Saipan, 14 months in recovery
At the center of it all was Carrie — a mother who watched her sons leave home again and again, and prayed them back each time.
